Beings Around Me, Beings Within Me

Elam Graduates Exhibition 2018

I am fascinated by microcosms and how a place can encapsulate in miniature the characteristics of something much larger. I often find myself in wild, windswept and rocky landscapes. Places where harsh winds have stunted the growth of trees but when you look more closely, rich, miniature communities of lichen and mosses thrive. My painting is a way for me to contemplate the patterns and textures I find in these ecosystems. I am interested in how the forms I make can grow, accumulate, and form relationships with one another. Some forms coalesce and live symbiotically, others live in close proximity only occasionally interacting. However, not only do I see organisms, I also see rivers and veins; entire galaxies and individual cells.
